Cumberland Mall is located in Vineland, NJ, on Route 47 (Delsea Drive) at Route 55 (Exit 27). Recently the NJDOT created a special ramp that channels traffic into the mall from Route 55 NB. Cumberland Mall is strategically positioned 25 miles (40 km) away from its nearest competitor, 45 miles (72 km) south of Philadelphia, PA and on route to the Southern New Jersey Shore Points. The mall almost went under, but was able to stay in business thanks to Vineland's 3.5% sales tax. Green Acres Mall first opened in 1956 as one of Long Island's first open-air centers serving the needs of numerous communities. To create an even more appealing shopping environment, the center was enclosed in 1968, and housed three anchor stores. As the surrounding area's population continued to grow, so did the mall with an expansion and renovation in 1983 that added a second level, food court and an additional anchor, Sears.
