The Berest Dance Center has operated in Port Washington since 1976. It is family owned with Olga Berest as director and Heather Berest, joining her mom as artistic director in 2006. (See article and pix below)
Housed in a beautiful Dutch Colonial purchased by the Berests in 1996, The Center includes 3 floors of studios flanked by decorated tin walls and ceilings, 2 bathrooms dressing and waiting room areas and a kitchen.

Champion Irish dancer and former lead of Riverdance, Kathleen Ryan, has expanded Ryan Irish Dance Academy to five locations across Nassau County.
Miss Kathleen has been dancing for more than 25 years, launching her international career with Riverdance on Broadway in 2000 and touring widely across North America with the iconic Celtic company until April 2005.

Many different classes during the week. Classes range from Salsa/Mambo ON 2 (commonly called "New York Style Salsa", "Nightclub Style Salsa" or just "Salsa On 2"), Latin Hustle, Merengue, Bachata, Swing, and Ballroom. Karine Newborn was born and raised in Paris France where she studied ballet with teachers from the Paris conservatory and The Paris Opera, she also studied jazz, modern, placement and voice. At the age of 15 she started working in some of the most renowned modern jazz companies in Paris and performed in "Cats" (Paris). She continued her career in France until she moved to America to pursue bigger dreams. She worked as a dancer,Choreographer and dance teacher for well over 2 decades, and had the joy of performing in many stage shows ("Golden Boys", "Cats", "Aida" (Broadway) and numerous music videos & movies ("South Pacific" with Glenn Close, "Do You Want To Dance" etc.) trade show industrial (Nike, Asix, Abba & many more).

Devoted to the education of children and adults in the art of dance. Classes are designed to encourage self expression, inspire, improve self discipline, technique, and provide an alternative for youth in a positive environment.

Side Street Kids, Inc is a not for profit organization founded in 1996 and based in the Bronx. The organization provides in-school children, K-12, with positive alternatives during non school hours in the greater NY metropolitan area. Empowering youth with the necessary skills to understand and appreciate the importance of education, positive family interaction and cultural awareness through dance.

Jorday Rivera is a remarkable woman who leads a double life. By day, Jorday is an honorary Pre Med. Graduate student at St. John's University. The head intern for the chief of cardiology at The Parkway Hospital for the past four years. Within the next six months Jorday will attend either NYU or Columbia Medical School. She will study Neonatal and later become a heart surgeon and open her own practice.

Capoeira Angola, an ancient martial art of African origin, is one of the many cultural weapons used to break the chains of enslavement in Brazil. Played close to the ground, Capoeira Angola combines fluid, dance-like movements with kicks, head butts, tripping sweeps and the appearance of playfulness or vulnerability. Music is played on traditional instruments to accompany the players, to teach the rhythmic heart of the art, and also to mask its power. In the eyes of the enslavers it appeared to be a joking and playful acrobatic dance, but eventually its power was realized and Capoeira was outlawed. Death was the penalty paid by those caught playing Capoeira during the slavery era. For almost 400 years Capoeira Angola was taught and practiced in secret, and only in the 1930's did this African martial art become legal to teach and practice.
